The End...

Today is the last day of the module which means the deadline is today.

I've finally finished my website and all related to it. It is almost ready to hand in, I just need to print the blogger posts off and burn the CD. I pretty much enjoyed this unit because I like making websites and I think I'm pretty good in this. My website is fully interactive however it doesnt work properly on some browsers probably because each browser reads the code in a different way so the layers are in a different position that they should be. So I've prepared a version using tables instead of layers and it seems to be working on most browsers. If I had more time I'd probably make it even more interactive i.e. more rollover effects put some sound samples and add some effect to the background.

Overall I've been working really hard to make it as good as possible and I think I met expectations.

research- good myspace profile

During the last few weeks I've been looking for some interesting profiles but unfortunately I couldn't find anything which would attract and interest me. There is loads of myspace profiles but most of them have weird colours, or the content is unreadable or it simply isn't updated.

research- bad myspace profile

This is an example of a bad myspace profile. I really don't like the background which honestly looks so crap! The colours of the background and the website are awful, I mean maybe black and white works fine together but here it clashes our eyes so we don't want to look at it. Although there is a one thing which is good about the profile-its being updated quite a lot, there are lots of comments, few photos etc.

Website designing

During the last few weeks I’ve been working on a website for a music shop called wavy.com. I think that I have managed to make a pretty good website, but during the whole making process I’ve had some problems that I couldn’t solve i.e. the website only works properly in browser Firefox but it doesn’t in Internet Explorer or Opera, the content is re sized and squished and seriously it looks really bad, so take a look at the website using only Firefox . I'm very pleased with the final result but I think if I had a bit more time I would change some bits in it i.e. more interactive flash speakers etc.

research - bad website

This is an example of a website, which isn’t a good looking website. Basically, this site is completely too dark, maybe the text is clear to read but the whole page is like messed up and seriously I think it looks awful. The colours just don’t work together properly, it makes you feel bored and sleepy, and honestly it. Also Times New Roman is the ugliest font ever, but it has been used on the whole website, which isn’t a good idea. The only one thing I found pretty interesting is the logo on the top left corner, I like the composition of it the shield and the crossed swords reminds me of crusades, knights etc which I’m interested in. Generally I do not like this website at all.

research - good website

This website is a great example of skill and creativity of the people who made it. It’s been written in flash, technology using designs in motion. Very interesting thing about it is that every time when you launch the website it’s coming up with different colourful layout and design. However not all layouts are clear as the others, but generally the web designers have made the masterpiece of web and animation design.

It contains all what is needed in portfolio, so all their works, latest news, contact and a short note about the authors.

Actually the website is using as a portfolio which use the fish and chips as a symbol of their production. Also the websites works as a shop where we can buy t-shirts etc.

webdesign part.2 session-b

After the frames we went to tables and layers. These two techniques are the most popular in web designing, because they are very easy to use and they have huge range of use. The bit about tables wasn't too interesting because I have learned how to use tables before, but the part about layers was pretty interesting, because in few years time all websites will be using layers etc so it is very important to learn it now.

webdesign part.2 session-a

At the beginning of our today's session Martial showed us how to use frames to make a website. I think it was really easy, because I have done many websites, so I kind of know how to do it properly. Actually I have never used frames before, because at the moment no one uses them, tables and divs are more popular now, but I have some experience with html so it wasn't hard to do. Just few seconds before, Martial showed us a video tutorial available on moodle about frames. Unfortunately I know how to do that already ;)

webdesign part. 1

Today We were working on website we have done for Design Methods. Basically we were cropping the psd file and putting it into html. Most of the time on this session I spent on making a flash menu for my website. I have made rollover effects and also sound effects on rollovers. I did enjoy this session because I could improve my flash knowledge as well as webdesign

Virgin.co.uk

Today we also looked at virgin website and we were looking for some bad points of that page. The page is not well prepared for colour blind people, dyslexic etc.

Also because it is all made in flash it causes some problems for the potential viewers because the search engines doesn't support flash files, so the content of the page cannot be indexed into a 'result list' for a set of keywords. But because Virgin is well known company it doesn't really need to use SEO (Search Engine Optimization) because if someone wants to find virgin website he will find it, because it is well known.

ps. I have lost again my research of the good and bad website examples.....I hate MAC's!

SEO - Search Engine Optimization

Basically, it is a process optimizing a website to gain top positions on search engines for various keywords. SEO is the main way to drive traffic on your website.

Meta tags and headings are the main 'tags' that will attract a search engine to put our website somewhere in the result list. The meta tags, headings and links on the website have to be related to each other the in other case it won't work.

"The term used to describe the marketing technique of preparing a web site to enhance its chances of being ranked in the top results of a search engine once a relevant search is undertaken. A number of factors are important when optimizing a web site, including the content and structure of the web site's copy and page layout, the HTML meta-tags and the submission process."

2nd session part 2 - Google video

Well as you can guess from the title, we were watching the vidoe about Google as a company, looking on the good ways and bad ways about it. Unfortunately there is more the bad ones...  i.e. scanning all the books and putting them online, passing the information about people to the USA government or FBI etc...what a scammers!

ekhm also as you can see I have created the new blog, cuz the last one died in an accident, also I wrote about good and bad myspace profile but its not finished yet so ill post it later :P

2nd session part.1

Well, I forgot the password for my previous blogger, and the password recovery by email doesn't work so I had to make another profile.....
